“Listen for the Sound of the Bell”

“Listen for the Sound of the Bell”

I wanted to share an old favorite story of mine.  The author is unknown:

Just up the from my house is a field with two horses in it. From a distance each horse looks like any other horse. However, if you stop the car or are walking, you will notice something quite amazing.

Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose he is blind. The owner has chosen not to have the blind horse put down, but has made a good home for him. This alone is amazing. But if you stand and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see it comes from the smaller horse in the field.

Attached to the smaller horse’s halter is a small bell. It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow. As you stand and watch these two friends, you’ll see the horse with the bell always checking to see if the blind horse is following.

Like the owner of the two horses, God does not throw us away because we are not perfect, or because we have problems or challenges. He watches over us, bringing others into our lives to help us when we have problems or challenges.

Good friends, yes, and good churches, are like that as well. You know they are always there for you. May we learn to listen for the sound of the bell, or in our case, receive guidance from the Holy Spirit. Here is how we will hear the sound of the bell, so to speak. Get in the Word, the Bible.  Read it faithfully every day, as if it is a life line. Present your need for guidance to God in prayer. Ask often. Walk in a way that is pleasing to God.  Be patient. Timing is everything when seeking guidance from the Lord.  There may be other issues that need to change before you’ll now exactly what, when and where. Let me assure you, when you do find the will of God (guidance from the Holy Spirit), it will be: Good … Acceptable … Perfect.  Could you ask for anything better?

One more thing — When considering God’s will for your life, remember this: Just because you are in the will of God does not mean it will always be easy for you! It might be difficult, but if God is in it, you will be so blessed, because He is happy you waited for His will as opposed to your will!
