I would like to write a few words about LIGHT this morning. LIGHT has been around a long time! Genesis 1:2 & 3a — “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light;’ and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good, and God divided the light from the darkness.“

Yes, light has been around since Day One of the universe, yet none of us can see without it. Scientists can’t even agree on how light works. Is it a particle, or a wave? No one can define light.

Medical researchers say that one-fifth of the brain is functioning only to deal with light. In spite of that, scientists still can’t explain light. Seven centuries before Bethlehem’s most grandiose event, God told Isaiah that a Messiah would come “As a Light … to bring salvation to the world.” Beyond that prophetic message, the wait of 700 years was lived in darkness.

Wise Men from the East came with a revelation of Light. “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him?” In Matthew 2:10, the Wise Men were so very excited, because they were following the most brilliant of stars as it went before them from the East and stood over the place where Jesus was. “When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.”

I would love to have been on a camel riding with those kings from the Orient! To see that brilliant Light — what a privilege it must have been!

John 1:5“And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” How can this be? A light so bright, yet darkness enshrouds the human spirit to the point people are blinded? Our world today has people covering their eyes. They don’t want to look into the Light. In fear, they curse the Light. In blindness, they have denied the Light.

I must observe: You can hide from the Light, you can curse the Light, you can live in darkness through rebellion, but you cannot deny what no man can explain: There is a Light shining! It is straight from God. Light has a name! That Name is Jesus. He is the Light of the world. That Beam of Light is so brilliant that its beam penetrates all the way into evil. Light whose POWER does not need a battery or some other humanly known source of energy. Why? This Light is generated by God.

Thank God for Our Light Source, Jesus Christ,

Pastor Stan
