“Forgiveness, #1”

“Forgiveness, #1”

I can’t say by any means that I know it ALL regarding why people hold to pain. I have heard of little girls and boys who were sexually molested. These victims have a hard time forgiving! There’s the couple who planned to live forever in a happy married life, but alas something happened and the marriage vows were broken. Then there are those who are mad at God, for whatever reason. We could go on and on, but it is most likely there have been times when you had the great burden of an unforgiving spirit. You simply can’t or won’t  get over it.

No one could have borne more of a reason for not getting over it than Jesus Christ! His own people, the Jews, plotted His death by crucifixion. Jesus came to die for all people, yet it must have been hard to get over it, when His own family had turned against Him. In spite of this, Jesus said, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”  Luke 23:34

  1. We forgive so we won’t go to hell!
  • Let us start right on this forgiveness matter. Repeat after me: “No one is worth going to hell over.”
  • Mt. 18:21-35 speaks of Peter asking Jesus how many times we should forgive. Peter set the bar at seven times. Then, Jesus set the bar at 7 x 70, which = 490 times.
  • Make sure the forgiveness is from your heart.
  • How do I know for sure that I have forgiven? The acid test would be this:  Could I walk up to the person who has totally wronged me, pray for them, love them, and know it doesn’t even bother me to do so?
  • I surely wouldn’t want to live with an unforgiving spirit, just because I refused to forgive those who wronged me!
    1. We forgive so the devil doesn’t get a foothold in our hearts.
  • Ephesians 4:26-27. “In your anger do not sin:  Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”
  • If you continue in a certain sin, like anger and bitterness, the devil has a legal right to oppress you!
  • That oppression will come in many ways: Depression, desire to hurt other people, even suicide!
  • The stress from hanging on to an unforgiving spirit can shorten your life! It can make you sick with blood pressure that soars.

The devil has come to steal, kill and destroy. John 10:10

We Must NEVER Allow the Devil to Ruin Our Lives!
