“Falling in Love with Jesus …

“Falling in Love with Jesus …

… AKA, We Must Do Something, #3”

Last week I started a short series on, “How did we fall in love with Jesus?” Be patient with me. I wanted to address this subject one more time. I suggested the following:

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to help and teach you how to fall in love with Jesus.
  • Track how you spend your time. How many hours a day do you spend watching TV, or reading “stuff,” or being preoccupied and busy, but you can’t really put a finger on what you are so busy doing?
  • Compare the amount of time spent on “stuff,” with how much time you spent reading your Bible and praying.

Here is a continued list of “How we fall in love with Jesus”:

  • Confess and Repent for the lack of love you have in your relationship with Jesus — Admitting, repenting, and moving on. Peter had to do that after his failures on the night of Jesus’ betrayal. Peter had claimed, “I will never deny you! I will die with you!” Christians do sin! When was the last time you really repented for your lack of love towards Jesus?
  • Loving someone means you will do what they ask you to do. If you love Me, keep My commandments.” “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.” John 14:1 & John 15:10
  • “Loving Jesus” means Doing and Going” as you were commanded by Jesus. “And He said to them,Go into all the world and preach the Gospel.’” Mark 16:15. You may respond, “I can’t go into all the world!” We were meant to be a team. Some are boots on the ground. Not all can be “boots. However, there are other ways to “Go.” You can pray for those who “Go.” You can give finances so they can “Go.” As “Team Jesus,” we all can be part of, “Go and Do.”
  • Loving will include: Seeking to please them.  I love my wife, so I do all I can to please her, even when it moves me past my laziness, and it stretches me beyond what I can or want to do. Examples (from a male point of view): Your wonderful wife asks you to do something. We might call it a “Honey DO List!” This may stretch you, because you really don’t know how to do some stuff.  Figure it out. Quit being lazy!
  • Give the one you love Something Extra! My beloved has a birthday coming up! I never forget her birthday or wedding anniversary. Why? Because I love her. Hmm, I wonder … How could I give Jesus something extra? “Jesus, I just wanted to give you some of my extra time.” “Jesus, I wanted to act on Your Teachings about giving, listening, and praying.” “Jesus, please send Your Holy Spirit to teach me how to love you better.”

Are You a Good Lover?
