“Coping with Crises”

“Coping with Crises”

I couldn’t believe it happened to me! I don’t think I am a superman, but I was hauled off to the Emergency Room by ambulance on Sunday night! I was in the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life. My knee, which had the joint replaced five years ago, suddenly decided it didn’t like having that joint replacement.  Spasms of pain were more than I could ever have imagined.

Two days later I walked out of the hospital! At the writing of this article, I really have no solutions as to why the pain, swelling, etc. All of us will at some point in our lives experience a crisis beyond our ability to cope with. Many of you have experienced more than one of these kinds of traumas. Experience is a great teacher? Yes, and no. Each new crisis is different from the last one.

I found myself giving praise to Jesus and God, praying in the Spirit. I imagine the nursing staff got an ear full as I went through an hour and a half of MRI testing, etc. I didn’t care who heard. I just was singing and telling Jesus how much I loved Him. It was a great moment of praise.

My mind went back to Psalm 37 I preached about on Sunday morning.  After church I heard various ones relating their crisis of the week. Very sick loved ones, pain, watching loved ones suffer, and experiencing great weakness in the middle of hard times.

The buzz words of Psalm 37 came to my spirit again. “Trust in the Lord, Do good, Delight yourself in the Lord. Commit your way. He shall bring it to pass. Rest in the Lord. Wait patiently. Don’t Fret. Cease from anger. Good people have steps that are ordered by the Lord. The Lord upholds with His Hand.” What great and powerful words!

Shall I quit, back down, or back away? NEVER! We keep our eyes on the prize … Heaven our home. We refuse bitterness and anger. We will not be ruled by our negative emotions. Life is not over! God hasn’t forgotten! You are special! God created you, and gave you your own special DNA. Then Jesus bought you at the price of His own life. All those stripes on HIs back were for your healing! Jesus’ blood has the power to cleanse your sins. Jesus hasn’t forgotten what you were; He just makes it plain: “Your sins are wiped away, as far as the East is from the West!”

I don’t know what the future holds, but I know who holds our hands. I know the weight of my sins, but I also know that His love lifted me. Rejoice, child of God. He won. We will overcome and win. Take heart.  No one ever rose from the grave like Jesus did! No one else made promises that are 100% sure and never fail.

You Will Get Through This!
