“Confidence”

“Confidence”

One of John’s favorite terms in 1 John is,“We know …”

“Faith is deliberate confidence in the character of God whose ways you may not understand at the time.” — Oswald Chambers

God is bigger than your feelings. Thank God, we are not saved on the basis of feelings! Everyone has ups and downs with emotions. Some people battle the highs and lows in their lives very poorly. When they are down, they are really down, even to the point of suicide. When they are up, they make everyone giddy with joy. Eventually, this up & down syndrome will wear on those around you to the point that people begin to stay away from you, unless they really love you, because yo-yo people need constant attention.

Jesus did not teach that we are saved by our feelings. We are saved by the facts of God’s Truth. “For by GRACE you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9. We are challenged to allow our faith in our loving Heavenly Father to overcome our feelings. Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and He knows everything.

One man confessed to his pastor, “I am a miserable sinner and there is no help available for me. I have prayed to God. I have tried and tried to be good, and I have tried to do the right thing at the right time, but I always seem to fail.”

The pastor asked him, “Do you believe in the life, the death, and the resurrection of God’s Son, Jesus Christ?” “Yes, I do,” was his reply. “If Jesus came and stood right here beside you at this very moment, what would your words be to Him?” asked the Pastor.

The man said, “I would look up in His face and confess my sins to Him, and then I would tell Him that I feel like a lost sinner and there is no hope for me.”  “What do you think Jesus would say to you?” The man thought for a few moments and then a change came over his face. The change went from worry to a look of peace and tranquility.

Then the man replied, “Jesus would say, ‘I have forgiven you all your sins, when you confessed your sins to Me, and asked Me to forgive you. You are no longer guilty. I have washed your sins away, and I will never look back. I will not call you guilty any more. I will listen when you ask Me to help you. When you are faced with the temptation to sin, and you call on My Name, I will walk with you to  keep you from those things that you struggle with most.’”

Thank Jesus, He moves us past our feelings, saves us, then promises He will walk with us through every failure in our lives!
