06 Mar “And … Here We Are Again!”
What an amazing trip to Africa! We will tell you more about it this morning in church!
You may wonder, “Why do you two go to Africa, and put yourselves through so much?” My reply is: “We don’t have an option!” For the last 25 years, we have been called to go to Africa. There is no doubt in either of our minds that we must do what we are doing.
You see, it was 26 years ago when Mike and Marigold Cheshier came to the church we were then pastoring. They had never met us before. Marigold said, “I have a word from the Lord for your pastors. They will be going to Africa soon with us. They will have great favor with the Africans. God will use them in a mighty way.”
As I sat in my seat, I was thinking, “I don’t even know these folks. I’ve never met them before! How can they say that?” After church that night, we took them to dinner. I thought maybe they would give us some time to think and pray about the matter. No, that wasn’t what happened. They told us that they don’t go around giving personal words of prophecy, but they knew God had called us to go to Africa. Then came the BIG question. “Has God witnessed this in your heart?” My response was, “If the money is there, we will go.” I thought that was my way out of the matter, because we certainly didn’t have $6000 spare cash laying around so we could just hop on a plane and go to Africa! Yet, within a few short months, without asking anybody for money, all the funds were available to us!
Our first trip took us to Tanzania, East Africa. Oh my, what a place! We had left the USA with minus 0 weather and 6 feet of snow on the ground. We got off the plane and felt we were bathed in maximum heat and humidity. We were in the large city of Dar Es Salaam. From there we traveled a day into the deep bush. I shall never forget the giant bugs and the smells. In spite of that, we had the biggest smiles on our faces. We knew we were in God’s plan for our lives. We had amazing results of seeing souls saved.
From that point on, we have never doubted nor questioned that calling. We still don’t! We must go … and yet, we still pastor churches? Yes, it has been a calling that some pastors have received, but not many. It is the calling to be Pastors, plus Missionary/Evangelists. It has been an amazing journey, but we know this is what God has called us to do. We have not forgotten all of you! We probably pray more for the church and church family when we are gone, than when we are here!
We will tell about this trip we just completed this morning!
